Day 2: VBS

Hello, welcome to day twoooo, which means a day 2 devo! And a wonderful breakfast.

The plan was to leave at 8AM, but due to some transportation issues, we were delayed for an hour. Once the van arrived, we boarded all the materials for the day and squeezed in the back seats.

When we arrived close to the school grounds, we were met with a student drumline. They seemed to be practicing for an event happening later this week.

We walked to the courtyard of the school and started setting up for the day. Students were still eating brunch, so we warmed up with some praise songs. Students who finished early came up to the front, watching us play.

It was a little awkward at first, but after a few rounds of songs, the kids warmed up and started dancing along.

Eventually, all the kids gathered around, and we started our VBS for the day.

We sang songs, performed some skits, and shared a sermon message on David. After that, we split into our groups and went to our assigned classrooms.

For our day 1 VBS, we did a few arts and crafts together. One of them was a paper chain that represents the connection between David and God’s heart. Then, they made a hanging “glass” art mosaic that was in the shape of a fish.

Each group had different classroom experiences.

In my class, the kids were very sweet. They would often come up to us and ask us to look at the progress of their crafts. Many of them were very affectionate— giving us hugs or holding onto us as we walked around.

By the way, Oliver wanted me to tell you guys that 67 is still very relevant— really brought us together.

After we finished our VBS activities, it was time for dismissal. Some of our team members played soccer with the boys while the rest of us hung around, greeting the students and making sure they got their shirts and bags.

Once all the students left, we packed our things up to move on to the next thing. And wow, once we got in that van, we felt the exhaustion. We were sweating profusely. And cramped in the back of a van. 

After some driving, we arrived at our next destination: LUNCH.

Mmmmmmmmmmm.

We then drove just a few minutes to the next stop— a beautiful restaurant cafe.

After some nature and coffee, we were REVITALIZED. 

Once we got back to our housing, we had some free time. A lot of our free time is spent resting, playing games, and/or praising.

After dinner, we had a time of worship and a meeting with the missionary. For some, this mission trip is their first. We talked a bit about what we were doing here and our reasons for coming on this trip. Truthfully, there is little that we can do in a week. If anything, nothing.

And actually, the plans for the rest of this week were derailed— our 3-day VBS would turn into 2. The school is going to be closed on Thursday, which meant that we had to reevaluate what tomorrow would look like. In a way, it was a reminder that we were not in control of this situation at all; God is.

With this in mind, we practiced our skits for the rest of the night.
