Day 1: Travel

Hello!

Thank you for your prayers.

We arrived safely in Guatemala City on Sunday night. Many of us were very exhausted, but it did not stop us from enjoying Burger King as our first meal in Guatemala. For our very first night, we stayed in some rooms at the missionary’s church nearby.

Every morning, we have a planned time for devo, so that’s exactly what we did. We all woke up around 6AM, had morning devo together, then got back on the van to travel to our next destination.

The ride there was peaceful for those who chose to sleep and very boisterous and fun for those who wanted to play. There were no traffic and complications on the way— praise God.

We stopped by a restaurant called San Martin for brunch (would’ve been lunchtime in Virginia). It smelled AMAZING. The smell of fresh bread and coffee— WOW. It was a much-needed time for refreshing.

Then, we were back on the road for 3 more hours before we arrived at our final place of stay. 

One thing I’ve noticed about South America, from previous experiences and from today, is the warmth they give. It’s a mix of different things: one is their usage of warm colors (orange, yellow) and the other is their hospitality to friends and visitors alike.

One of the first people to greet us, very warmly too, was a very young boy. I don’t think he was necessarily there to welcome us— I think he just happened to be at the right place at the right time, and was very intrigued by this large group of Korean people wearing matching t-shirts.

After some rest, we gathered together for dinner, practice, and a time of worship. Day one was very much just a day of travel, rest, and preparation for the next three days of VBS.
